Alec Wilder has stirred great interest among classical artists who are attracted to his music because of his elegant use of form and inventive orchestration. His chamber music compositions boast entirely "new" sounds with the use of marimba, harpsichord, English horn, etc. He is well known as a composer of "pop" music, who wrote songs for such artists as Mabel Mercer, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Mildred Baily, as well as influencing the jazz greats, Stan Kenton, Gerry Mulligan, Marian McPartland and others.
